Hello fans and friends of Dead Man's General Store! I just wanted to post a quick update about the current status of Dead Man's and keep you all filled in.
It has been a couple of weeks since we completed our move out of the Watertown building, and we're trying to adjust to being free-range and "homeless!" The move was intense, there were a lot of things to put somewhere, and we've been spending some of the time since the move trying to organize everything that had to come home with us so that our house will still be live-able. Most of the Dead Man's stuff has gone into storage and will reappear when we re-open in a new location, but it was inevitable that a few things had to come to the house, and our house was already pretty full to begin with, so it has been a challenge to find a home for everything...but we're pretty much there.
Another thing we've been working on a lot is improving our online presence. A complete redesign of our website is underway, and we hope to be able to unveil it in a couple of weeks. We've always had great interaction with people interested in the store on places like Facebook and Twitter, and of course we have our email list, but we've also started this new blog so that we can elaborate a bit more on our updates in a slightly more "conversational" way. So for the time being, it's all about the internet! We may not have a physical store at the moment, but that doesn't mean we're gone completely, so just remember that you can still find us wherever you are online...Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Etsy, our email list, and soon our brand new website.
We have made the decision to allow ourselves several months before trying to re-open. This was a tough call, because our initial sense was that we should do it as soon as possible. After taking a look at what needed to happen before we'd feel confident about opening again, and what the norm is for retail sales during certain months of the year, it wasn't going to make sense to rush it. When we come back, we want Dead Man's to be bigger and better than ever before, and if that's our goal, it's just going to take some time and hard work to pull it off!
We will, of course, be doing everything we can in the meantime to stay in touch and keep everyone posted. We'll still be making new products, and they will be available online at our Etsy shop and the new website. When new products are available, we'll send out updates in all of the usual places. If you're a person who doesn't mind shopping online, we'd greatly appreciate any support we can get! While we aren't going to rely on online sales alone during our time between buildings, the better we do online, the quicker we can re-open and the better we'll be when we do!
We really appreciate everyone's patience and support during this transition, and hope you'll all continue to hang in there with us!
